I am a hard-working individual with a strong passion for aviation and engineering. I have lived in four continents and travelled extensively. I have returned to college at IT Carlow to follow my dream and pursue a career in aviation. I am currently in my final year of the Bachelor of Engineering degree in Aircraft Systems with a view to working in the aircraft leasing field. In my time at IT Carlow I have been a dedicated student and learned a lot in a very interesting degree.
When not studying aviation I like to relax with music and cycling. I studied at the Cork Academy of Music, earning a FETAC level 5 with distinction. I have played in four different bands and have performed a great deal as part of the music course.
I play many different styles of guitar. I also play the mandolin, the saxophone and bass. I’m able to read music and compose and arrange songs. The music course included music technology, performance and computer skills.
I have been very active over the years with music in general. This is a flyer from one of the festivals I created, organised and ran. It was one of five such events that I held on the family farm. It was a boutique, invite only event showcasing original Irish art music and gourmet food. The attendance was always in excess of five hundred people. It had a great atmosphere and was always a joy to work on.
These days I’ve been a bit quieter, concentrated on my studies. I still manage to get out to the odd Irish night. I love traditional music and I really enjoy getting out and playing in the community as well as in other businesses in my locality situated on the famous ‘’Wicklow Way’’.
This is a photo of me playing in my local pub, The Crab Lane. There are usually about ten musicians present with a full house on the first Friday of the month.
One of the ways I try to keep in shape is cycling. Pictured above the starting and finishing points of our Mizen to Malin head charity cycle. We raised over two thousand euro for muscular dystrophy. The cycle took three days to complete. We all made it despite some falls and some late starts.
This is my Felt F5 56cm Road bike. Carbon fibre frame, fork, seat and post and Shimano Acera group set. The bike Weighs in at 8.25 KG (with the aero bars) I typically cycle sixty to eighty Km a week.
Besides the aforementioned activities I enjoy using my hands and fixing as much things as I can. I service my bicycle and my car. I have become proficient at repairing mobile phones. What I really love doing in my spare time is keeping abreast of the aviation industry as much as possible. This involves reading Airliners Magazine, watching air crash investigation programs on TV and YouTube videos such, Sam Chui, Dj’s aviation and sky aviation to mention a few and listening to the various podcasts available on the sector.
I like to travel, to experience new cultures and food. I’ve learned a great deal from my adventures and travelling to more than twenty five countries has definitely given me a perspective that I truly cherish.
